The top 10 reasons why you should study English abroad in Ireland

Studying English abroad was always my big dream and I couldn´t have chosen a better place than Ireland! Taking an English course was the best thing I ever did. I feel like Ireland is my second home and I want to share with you all what makes it so special. Not convinced yet? Keep reading:

1. Learn English at a language school

The best way to learn a new language is by living in the country where the language is spoken. You can then practice your English all the time: when you buy food, ask for directions and to make new friends. You can go to the cinema to practice your English listening (there are no subtitles). You will even start to speak in English in your dreams.

2. Diversity

In Ireland you can meet people from all over the world! You can learn words from different languages other than English and learn about different cultures. I feel fascinated when I walk around Dublin City Centre, I can listen to at least 5 different languages in less than 5 minutes of walking. There are a lot of Meet Ups where you can meet other people, making new friends and networking. And of course, in English lessons you will meet a lot of foreigners.

3. The Irish people and their culture

Irish people were constantly in the news during Euro 2016 for their kindness and happiness and it is all true! They are one of the most friendly people in the world! If you are lost they are patient and helpful. In the main streets and pubs in Dublin you can appreciate good music.

4. Learn more than English

Here you will probably share your house, even your room with people that you´ve never seen before. It could be with people from your own country, but from a different city, or even with a person from another country. You will learn more than English, you will learn a lot about yourself and you will be more patient and understand that everybody is different. Also, it might be the first time that you will be living alone (without your parents) and you will start to buy your own food, cleaning products, household things etc.

5. The landscape

Do you know Katy Perry´s song? “Where the glass is really greener”, I think she was talking about Ireland. The green in this small Ireland is amazing and vivid! You can find nice sculptures, Georgian doors, Parks (Phoenix Park is one of the biggest parks in Europe), castles, lakes and mountains. If you go to the countryside you will see a lot of sheep walking around. You get the feeling that you are living in a magical place.

6. Enjoy the simple things in life

When I was taking an English course I started to enjoy myself by going alone to the coffee shop or going to the park after my English lesson. I even decided sometimes to get the Dart (train) and visit new places. You start to notice and appreciate the simple things n life: the green colour of the grass, the sun, to be able to go walking or ride a bike to the language school or work or the pub. Here you can go to English school, work part-time and still have time to enjoy yourself, with no stress. The quality of life in Ireland is one good reason to come here!

7. Dublin Night life

Ireland is famous for its pubs! There are pubs for every taste of music. Sometimes they look the same from the outside but inside you will be surprised. In some of them you can have a nice Irish meal, or play table games, pool, bingo or a quiz. You can also watch live music and dance! And one of the things that I like the most is that you can go to as many pubs as you want during the night (or even during the day, anytime is the time to party). The Hen Parties here are so funny!

8. Travel around Europe

It´s so accessible to travel around Europe from Ireland because you can find cheap flight tickets and it´s not so far (especially compared to Brazil). In most European countries you don´t need a specific visa and your student card from Ireland will give you discounts in the museums and attractions. Once I found return flights to Denmark for €4! What a deal! You can go to Paris for the weekend, it’s amazing??

9. Gratitude

Even though you might feel nervous about starting an English course, from the moment you step on the plane to come here, you will have a great experience! Everything is new and you should be open to this. You might be working in a job that you never did before in your own country. You will start to see things in a new way and be grateful for all the things and people that you have in your life. You will be able to understand what it is like to be in a different position. Who knows, maybe, you could use your new English skills to find a nice job in your professional area.

10. Find yourself

Even though all the reasons above are great, I think that this is the best one! Coming to Ireland will give you more than new experiences, more than trips, fun, and the English language. Coming to Ireland will show you how brave you can be, how determined you are, how able and how better you can be! It´s amazing how much we can learn about ourselves in such short space of time!
